Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the most streamed song within six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music has not only brought attention back to this genre but as well to Latin music as a whole. The Billboard Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs from 2016 compared with two for 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017, however, 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 of them. Justin Bieber's remix in two languages Despacito was released in 2017. Soon after, popular artists started collaborating with reggaeton singers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018), and Madonna collaborated with Maluma to create Medellin. Certain reggaeton performers expressed their displeasure at the rise of mainstream music in the year 2020. But a new band, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the development and growth of reggaeton. The genre often included elements of electronic dance music and other forms.
